Pre-Employment Medicals

What are pre-employment medicals?

Pre-employment medicals are thorough health assessments used by employers to determine whether candidates meet the physical and safety requirements of a role.

How do pre-employment medicals benefit employers?

Well-designed pre-employment medicals support recruitment and long-term workplace efficiency by:

  • lowering the risk of workplace injuries and reducing downtime

  • cutting insurance claims and costs linked to high staff turnover

  • enabling employers to implement health-related risk management strategies.

They also help protect employers by:

  • detecting previously unknown or poorly managed health conditions

  • providing baseline data to assess whether future health issues are work-related.

What do Parkinson Medical Hub pre-employment medicals include?

Our multidisciplinary occupational health team can deliver standard pre-employment medicals or tailor assessments to the needs of specific industries and workplaces.

Testing is carried out by accredited nurses, physiologists, and physiotherapists, with physical examinations performed by a certified doctor.

Assessments may include:

Health Screening

  • Review of medical history, including vaccinations, past injuries, health conditions, and disabilities

  • General checks: blood pressure, vision, height, weight, and urine analysis

Blood Testing

  • Conducted when required to identify conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol

Drug and Alcohol Testing (DAS)

  • Essential for roles involving machinery or safety-critical work

  • Breath tests or urine samples provide instant results, while lab tests offer more accurate but slower reporting

Respiratory Health (Spirometry)

  • Measures lung capacity and function

  • Used for roles requiring physical exertion or involving long-term exposure to hazardous substances

Hearing Test (Audiometry)

  • Conducted in a soundproof booth

  • Evaluates ability to hear different pitches and sound intensities

  • Required in noisy workplaces where hearing protection is necessary

Musculoskeletal and Fitness Assessments

  • Assesses range of motion, flexibility, strength, lifting ability, and general fitness
